Porous ball, also known as filtering ceramic ball, is formed after boring on the basis of inert alumina ball or ceramic column.  Both porous ball and inert alumina ball share the same accumulation voidage, and play the role of catalyst coverage & support and vapor-liquid separation. Comparing with the perforated ball, there're more pores in the porous ball body. Comparing with inert alumina ball, structured pores with absorption function increased by 20-30% so that it can filter impurities in the oil.

As oil impurities are in the form of granular, pectic, bitumen-like and heavy metals, part of them can be filtered out after going through raw material filter. But there is still a significant portion, e.g. those granular impurities or iron ion which size less than 25μm, is not able to filter out. If porous ball is loaded on the top of the reactor,  those impurities, which was not removed from raw material early, will be filtered out after absorption of porous ball. Therefore, catalyst will be protected to ensure unit operation and equipment run smoothly.

Based on content and granular size of impurities inside raw material, relevant porous ball with specific aperture and certain number of pores will be applied to meet customer's requirements. If necessary, active agent, e.g. molybdenum, nickel,  and cobalt, can be loaded to prevent the catalyst from carbon-coking and poisoning.

For Liaohe Petrochemical Company, our porous ball has been applied in her hydrogenation & refining plant  of 600,000MT coking gas & diesel oil, which performance is highly appreciated and the separation of the impurities can reach over 75%.
